Understanding the Pendulum (Orbital) Action
- The pendulum setting changes the blade’s movement from a straight up-and-down motion to an orbital (forward-and-backward) motion.
- This adjustment affects cutting speed, finish quality, and material suitability.
- Higher settings increase cutting speed but reduce finish quality; lower settings provide smoother cuts.
1. Locate the Orbital Adjustment Knob
- The orbital adjustment knob is usually located on the side of the jigsaw for easy access.
- It is marked with numbers 0–3:
- 0 = No orbital action (straight cut)
- 1–3 = Increasing orbital movement for faster cutting.
2. Select the Correct Setting
- Setting 0 (No orbital action)
- Best for metal, plastics, and fine woodworking.
- Produces smooth, accurate cuts with minimal tear-out. - Setting 1–2 (Moderate orbital action)
- Ideal for general wood cutting.
- Balances speed and finish quality. - Setting 3 (Maximum orbital action)
- Perfect for fast, rough cuts
- Prioritizes speed over finish.
Additional Tips
- Use lower orbital settings for harder materials to avoid blade damage.
- Combine the correct orbital setting with the right blade type for best results.
- Higher orbital settings increase cutting speed but reduce finish quality.
