RYOBI Secateurs LED flash when cutting timber

If the unit is overloaded, the LED will flash, and the blades will re-open for another attempt. The cut capacity of your unit varies between models, so make sure you aren't cutting material that's too thick:

18V ONE+ Bypass Pruning Secateurs - Tool Only (R18SEC) - 20mm hard dry material and 25mm green material.
18V ONE+ HP Pruning Secateurs Tool Only (R18XSEC20) - 23mm hard dry material and 28mm green material.
