Chainsaw Making a Squealing Noise?

A squealing sound usually means excess friction. Check the following:

1. Is the chain lubricated?
A dry chain can squeal and overheat. Verify that the oil reservoir is full and that the chain is receiving proper lubrication.

2. Is the chain too tight?
Over-tensioning increases friction and can cause squealing. Use the tensioning knob to adjust the chain so it’s snug but still moves freely by hand (with the saw off).

3. Is debris caught in the bar?
Packed sawdust, chips, or dirt in the guide bar groove can cause noise and resistance. Remove the chain and clean the bar and groove thoroughly.
