  • Ensure the unit has power.
  • If you have a battery-powered model, ensure the battery is secured correctly.
  • If you have an electric model, ensure your extension lead no longer then 25m.
  • If petrol-powered, ensure the unit has fresh fuel.
  • When completing any maintenance ensure:
    • Battery: Battery is removed
    • Electric: Unplugged from mains power
    • Petrol: Unit is turned off

Blade Maintenance

  • Hedge trimmer blades require ongoing lubrication to keep the friction between the blades low to prevent excess heat.
  • Unlike chainsaws, hedge trimmers do not have an oil reservoir, therefore the oil is applied directly to the trimmer blades. Ensure blades are lubricated before and after every use with a plant-friendly lubricant.
  • Blades may be blunt and need sharpening. To sharpen your blades, take them to a sharpening expert. Eg: local mower servicing outlet or knife sharpening business.
