Fit the belt in the correct direction
Belt sanding belts have an overlapping joint, so they must be fitted in the correct direction to prevent breaking at the join during use.
On the inside of every belt, you’ll find directional arrows. Fit the belt so the arrows match the direction indicated on the tool. The arrow position may vary between models.
Steps to fit or replace the belt
Step 1: Disconnect power
For AC models: unplug the power cord.
For cordless models: remove the battery.
Step 2: Release tension
Pull back the tensioning lever and slide the old belt out.
Step 3: Position the new belt
Place the belt roughly in the centre of the metal backplate and push the tensioning lever back in.
Step 4: Align the belt
Ensure the belt fits firmly on the rollers.
Adjust the tracking so the belt stays centred and does not come off during use
(See: How to adjust the belt tracking on a Ryobi Belt Sander.)
