Before performing any maintenance or troubleshooting, ensure the chainsaw is off, if a petrol product - ensure the engine is not running, for a battery powered saw – remove the battery, and engage the chain brake.
Is the chain brake disengaged?
Check if the chain brake is disengaged; the chain won't move if it's engaged. Chain brakes are designed to quickly stop the chain from rotating. When the chain brake lever is pushed towards the bar, the chain should stop immediately.
Is the chain fitted correctly?
Adjust the chain tension if it's too tight or loose using the knob on the side of the unit.
Is the unit dirty?
Clear any debris, sawdust, or objects from the chain and guide bar to prevent jams.
Does your battery have charge?
Seems obvious, but have you checked your battery? Are the terminals clean? Are the terminals on the chainsaw clean?
